UGREEN USB C 2.5" hard drive enclosure

Although this is now a regular review or hands-on article, before moving on I should thank UGREEN for sending over the USB C 2.5" hard drive enclosure that I needed to revive the hard drive of my deceased Asus K70AB laptop, namely a decade-old 320 GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6. Now, let's take a closer look at this handy storage accessory and try to keep in mind that this is not an advertorial, just my honest thoughts after a few weeks of use.

The UGREEN USB C 2.5" hard drive enclosure is just one of the many such accessories currently fielded by this Chinese brand. It requires no tools to install a 2.5" hard drive (SSDs are also supported) and can accommodate drives up to 6 TB in size. The chipset is ASMedia's ASM1352R with USB Attached SCSI Protocol and TRIM support, so the users of this storage accessory can take full advantage of their SSDs capabilities. The speeds supported can hit 6 Gbps but I was not able to test this due to the slowness of my hard drive.

The retail package includes one USB-A to USB-C cable (USB 3.1 Gen 2 and backward compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0) and the enclosure itself, so if you need a USB-C to USB-C cable, you will have to purchase one. For just US$24, the UGREEN USB C 2.5" hard drive enclosure looks and feels great (a big plus for the high-quality, UGREEN-branded cable included in the package).

Although it got a few scratches and the plastic part is a fingerprint magnet, I can say that I had no problems with the UGREEN USB C 2.5" enclosure overall — the drive inside it never encountered any temperature issues, it never disconnected by itself, and data transfers went smoothly without any hiccups.
